The Philippines is expecting around a million jobs to be
generated when the $13.5 billions of investment pledges of China kicks in.
“These agreements will translate to over one million newly
created jobs mostly in the areas outside Metro Manila,” Communications
Undersecretary Noel Puyat was quoted in a GMA News Online story.
The $13.5B Chinese investments, which was agreed upon during
President Rodrigo Duterte’s visit will be primarily in the field of tourism,
said the China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund.
But with the expected influx of tourists also comes the
demand for more hotels in the country. Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Sta.
Romano said that Chinese hotels would fill in that need.
“The question really is capacity whether we have enough
hotels, so hotel business will benefit. There’s a plan to build smaller hotels
particularly those with Chinese brands like Jinjiang and I think you’ll see
more of that,” he said.
All in all, there are over 2 million jobs that will be
generated from the Philippines-China agreement signed during Dutertes visit to
China on October 20 and 21.
Gifted with vast shores of beautiful beaches and
breathtaking views, tourism is among the most important industry sectors in the
Philippines.
In 2015 alone, the industry contributed 10.6% to the
country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Boracay and Palawan, among the country’s must-see
destination, has been named repeatedly as the most beautiful islands in the
world.
