Gordon: Move on from the issue of Marcos’ burial, focus on other things like helping the poor

Senator Richard Gordon has called the Filipino people to focus on other things and move on from the issue of the burial of the late president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.

In an article written by Jude Torres of ABS-CBN News, it was disclosed that Gordon, who is also the chairman of the Philippine Red Cross, said Filipinos have to focus on the country’s development and help the poor in getting better sources of living.

Hero’s burial for Marcos

On Tuesday, November 8, the decision on the burial of Marcos was released by the SC.
“President Duterte acted within the bounds of law and jurisprudence. Notwithstanding the call of human rights advocates, the Court must uphold what is legal and just,” stated the majority decision written by Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta.

Those who concurred with Peralta’s ruling were Associate Justices Presbitero Velasco, Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Arturo Brion, Lucas Bersamin, Mariano del Castillo, Jose Perez, Jose Mendoza and Estela Perlas-Bernabe.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, Francis Jardeleza, and Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa dissented, while Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes inhibited himself.

Marcos’ namesake, former senator and vice presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos, thanked President Duterte for backing his father’s burial at the heroes’ cemetery and the high court as well for its decision.

The human rights victims and their supporters, on the other hand, expressed sorrow over the ruling.

Watch Gordon explains, in an interview earlier, the reason why he is in favor of Marcos’ burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani:
